Like a squirrel gathering nuts, I seek inspirational nuggets wherever I can find them. The quote above was offered recently by one of our teacher trainees at the beginning of a session. It made me catch my breath. These words rang so true because no matter what we look like or how much we have achieved, we still face the inner critic of not being enough.

I’ve lived in and had the fortune to travel to many places with vastly different terrains, from the Alpine Mountains down to the Dead Sea. There is so much breathtaking beauty in this world of ours that it’s a challenge to pick a favorite. I suppose you don’t have to choose which you like best, […]

Smoky Mountain High

June 13, 2019

[et_pb_section][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text] Today is my re-birthday, the 5th anniversary of breaking free from the security of a regular paycheck, generous health benefits and a 401K. These are all good reasons to work in a traditional environment, I understand that, but at the time they had become the ties that bind. Five years ago, with a […]

senior yoga growing old

For no reason at all, today I was thinking about what it’s like to grow older. I see the hallmarks of age every time I look in the mirror. I chose a couple of years ago to let my hair reveal its natural color. After tossing the bottle of chemicals, I re-covered the time spent […]

Older Is Better…Right?

May 13, 2019

This is the time of year when the sun illuminates the magnificence of the landscape around us. Even the tiniest details seem to dance in the summer sun’s brilliance. At the same time, this brilliant light can penetrate our veils to expose our inner shadowy self, leaving the darkness to stand in stark contrast to […]

connecting yoga and nature

The season of fresh beginnings has arrived. Like a tender seedling pushing up from the depths of the soil, instinctively reaching for the sun, we, too, are urged to grow from darkness toward light. As the days lengthen, we are drawn to spend more time out-of-doors. Our connection to Nature is so vital for our well-being, […]

Springing to Life

March 10, 2017

There are times in life, and I am sure you have experienced them, when the winds shift and we sense change on the horizon. The heady blend of anticipation, excitement and fear becomes a potent cocktail as the winds blow stronger, carrying with them the unexpected. What follows on the crest of the next gust […]

Have you ever had one of those pinch-yourself, I-can’t-believe-this-is-real, moments? I experience them frequently as the owner, creative director, visionary, floor sweeper, bookkeeper and team cheerleader of Peace through Yoga. The moment I had today, however, surpassed all others. As I flowed through poses with fellow students in class, a seedling of pleasure burst into […]

The Power of Connection: Year-End Thoughts for 2016

December 22, 2016

Whenever I address an audience, my hands feel disproportionally large and awkward. What am I supposed to do with these appendages? Yes, they can be expressive, compelling even, but they also can be clumsy and a distraction.   Hands are an important element of our self-expression. For decades we have watched TV commercials featuring close-ups of unblemished […]

Those who practice yoga have likely heard yoga is “an inside job.” True, indeed. Our time on the mat leads us to the 5th of the 8 Limbs of Yoga – pratyahara, withdrawal of the senses – when we shift the direction of our energy and awareness from the outside environment to the vast world […]
